THE REASON:
What is Fuel Tax Recovery?
The federal government and states charge tax on the purchase of motor fuel to provide funds for the construction and upkeep of the public highways.
Select states allow the recovery of tax paid on motor fuel when the fuel is used for purposes other than the operation or propulsion of vehicles and equipment on public highways.
Recovery periods in those
select states vary from three months to three years. Federal refunds are available
for up to three years from the date that an original claim was filed.
